Did you know I can only think of four things at a time? Right now I'm thinking about the number 77, time signature metered time signatures, cute anime characters, and a haircut.

No seriously, feel free to talk to me for whatever reason. Askbox is always open as well as Skype.

Once again, I really hate the “git gud” kinda mindset that sprouted from the Souls series, mainly because the game isn’t specifically “difficult” but rather more challenging your thinking.

Without spending too much time on this, it’s like the difference between lifting a 250 pound weight and beating a puzzle game.

A lot of strain comes directly from the action of lifting the 250 pound weight, unless you straight up are capable to lift it, but a puzzle game can be really tough the first time through but when you understand the solutions, the game becomes significantly easier.

If you played Portal through to its completion the very first time in your life and then replay Portal from the top immediately after you would understandably breeze through it, or at least be significantly faster.

The exact same thing comes from the Souls series. If you play the game through to its end, and then immediately make a new character and start from the top again, you’ll breeze through it or be significantly faster in the exact same way that you would in Portal.

That’s why I never understood why people called the series “Difficult” or hailed its difficulty, for there is a larger intersect of my enjoyment in the Souls series in the same way I had enjoyed the Portal series.

When it comes to Dark Souls and easy mode, do you have any thoughts on the idea/arguments that "From Software should broaden its scope so that less skilled players can enjoy the story", that "everyone would win if there was an easy mode", and that "games are meant to be fun"?

“From Software should broaden its scope so that less skilled players can enjoy the story”

That’s a a funny argument considering the success the Souls games have is owed in part to the lack of an easy mode, forcing everyone to go through the same route and experience the sames things is what made so many people talk about it. An easy mode would cheapen the experience and not make it stick to players as much and thus makes less people want to talk about it and play it.

And if less skilled players just want the story they can read the wiki and watch playthroughs on youtube. Or they can acquire skill as getting good in a videogame is not impossible and Dark Souls isn’t even that hard.

“everyone would win if there was an easy mode"

From probably wouldn’t.

“games are meant to be fun”

Not fun for everyone, as you can’t please everyone.

Plus reducing the skill level to access the STORY? Even the most avid dark souls players barely understand the story, its not a matter of 2deep4u or anything but everything is so hidden and out of the way, and so difficult to find and piece together than enjoying the game for the story alone would be the most boring thing in existence. It’d be a fucking item hunt with lots of description reading. So few characters have any kind of exposition it’s hardly worth talking to most. Almost all understanding of the story comes from fucking lore hunters that play the game, and would you guess it you can go and watch all the videos from those people right now, with no bosses and difficulty ahead, just slap “vaatividya” or “epicnamebro” into youtube and go fuckin nuts.

Don’t do that.

The thing about Dark Souls’ story is that it isn’t there.

The director grew up reading english fantasy novels while having a poor grasp of the language, so he’d just sort of mentally insert whatever made sense to him in the gaps where he couldn’t understand. He wanted to share this in Dark Souls, which is why the story is so vague. A lot of it just isn’t there, so you can fill it in with your own shit.

Never trust the lore hunters, and never take what they say as canon. They’re often not much more right than a casual player, but people take what they say as gospel because they make videos on Youtube.

oh well fuck me there’s even LESS reason to play the game for the story

what the fuck, somebody sent me that exact same ask like seven times, word for word the same

it’s totally okay to not play video games! it seems that people kinda forget this and that there’s always a driving force to make certain games “mandatory reading” or something!

It’s totally fine to experience media in whatever way you decide to, including abstaining! this is very important please do not forget that!

That’s fake and not true! Get off my post you liar!

Of the four lord souls that were inherited by Gwyn's confidants, only 1 of those four ended not down a dark hole. Seath was the one who was given special treatment, being granted Dukedom and a giant library to pursue his research. We also see that Crossbreed Priscilla is one of Gwyn's daughters that he utterly despised even existing. It's clear. Gwyn, Lord of Cinder fucked Seath the Scaleless, and abandoned the lovechild in the Painted World to hide his tryst with his smooth and powerful lover.

look it’s been clearly stated that anyone in possession of a lord soul was ineffable, which means you can’t fuck them. it’s incredibly obvious, just go down the list

-  seath’s lower body is crystallized and gwyn was clearly not into the shy bookwyrm type anyway

- the four kings were stuck in a big shitty hole because they got tricked by a snake oil salesserpent

- the witch of izalith’s bed will sweep you into a pit

- you can’t bone nito because I mean like just look at him
