I could understand a good lot of what the localisation for FE:Fates did, even if I highly disagree with it, but hell– if they just flat decided to have the literal identical dialogue except for changing the pronouns as the Straight Pairing, there really should have been more than one fucking gay pair per fucking title.
I can’t just do that. In one voice, be prideful that this is the first direct confirmation of gay people existing in a fourteen game long series and in the other be fine with the act of omitting the gay-specific dialogue.
“But isn’t this *true equality*? Having the dialogues not matter which gender you are?”
Not at all, because fundamentally homosexuality and heterosexuality are absolutely not equivalent. This is grossly apparent when it comes to representation.
You cannot substitute in a straight relationship where a gay relationship has taken place for the connotations of being gay are so much different than being straight in the world that we populate.
I don’t know. I can only speak for myself as a gay™, namely because I haven’t seen (in my field of vision, which is definitely limited) another gay individual weigh in on this topic, but I can’t imagine the inherited conversation of “hey all you gays! We totally want to push for EQUALITY of romantic representation! so we took all the CUSTOM DIALOGUE that talked about the struggles of BEING GAY in a PREDOMINANTLY STRAIGHT world and just REPLACED IT with the STRAIGHT DIALOGUE! Because deep down, we’re all EQUAL, right?”
