neoteny is the property of resembling an organism in it's infancy, often characterized by large head and eyes, and soft, underdeveloped features. the term is often used in reference to traits which distinguish domesticated animals from their wild counterparts, i.e. humans select for child-like characteristics in animals they wish to domesticate.
