Well if you really wanna go into the technical bullshit yeah, that's the sense making part of it. It doesn't help that English is a bullshit language to begin with in that regard of the ou sound and soooooo much else besides. Insofar as how the word is pronounced on a daily basis though, ignore the dictionaries. It's two syllables.
