coming back here after about a half dozen listen-thru’s. my thoughts:
the transitions were great! good mixing in of electronic and heavier elements while keeping the overall feel consistent
i enjoyed your take on the story. obviously the canon doesn’t flesh it out much, but you made it a bit more complicated and interesting that anything else i’ve come across.
in “lament” i really dug the 6:8-4:4 signature. it makes you feel like something is kind of off and disturbing underneath, which is perfect for what is going on with celestia.
“dawn” was awesome and left me with some questions. celestia kind of forgot about her? or put it off and just started liking things without her? i generally like questions being raised for their own sake, but please do clarify if you’re so inclined.
good stuff man, looking forward to the next one!
Thanks, man!
In regards to Dawn… In Lament, here’s a Celestia distraught over the course of what happened with her sister. At this point, she doesn’t quite get the lesson of the story.
Between the Two of Us happens, and here Celestia uses these Elements of Harmony to fix everything, but an issue arises.
See, in my headcanon, the elements of harmony are very fucking powerful, if not the Deus Ex Machina of the show. Seriously, in the show if some serious shit goes down, it’s always GET THE ELEMENTS! I wanted to nerf that in my headcanon. The Elements detonate in Between the Two of Us due to BOTH Celestia’s and Luna’s lack of harmony. This causes that intense backfire. At the end of Between the Two of Us, Celestia finally gets that it was everyone’s fault.
Come Dawn. Celestia keeps putting off bringing Luna back home. Over the time that she reigned alone, she realised that she enjoyed ruling alone. Just like at the very start of the album. She puts it off and off and off, until she just decides to forget her.
Sometimes we just don’t learn the lesson.
Time happens.
Nightmare Moon comes back more pissed than ever.
That’s why she asked Twilight to report her lessons. She’s making sure that after all this time, Twilight would never end up being someone like her.
