I’ve never done anything for Rosh Hashanah–I just haven’t had a long-term community for it–but this time I feel compelled
Is there a way I can celebrate Rosh Hashanah all on my lonesome?
Suggestions for a DIY Rosh Hashanah (choose as many or as few as you wish):
- Listen to the sound of the Shofar
- Eat something sweet like apples and honey, pomegranate, sweet challah, honey cake, apple jam, tzimmes, candied gourd, honeyed dates, baklava, etc.
- Watch a Rosh Hashanah service being streamed online
- Do your own personal Tashlich and cast away your sins from the past year by throwing breadcrumbs into a body of water while reflecting on the year to come.
- Make New Year’s cards and send them out to friends or family
- Make a special New Year’s resolution in regards to Judaism or Jewishness
- Light candles and say the blessing
- Read the torah portion for Rosh Hashanah or recite one of the holiday’s prayers
- Listen to Jewish music from around the world
- Read a book about Judaism or the high holidays
- Do a Rosh Hashanah-themed craft project
- Go for a hike and meditate on what the new year and being Jewish means to you
- Wish your Jewish friends and family a shana tovah!
