the current Super Mario World speedrun strat is to perform about fifty seemingly arbitrary tasks with pixel-perfect accuracy to force sprites to stay in the game’s memory and then eating an enemy and a fireball at the same time with yoshi which causes the SNES’s memory bus to execute the stored sprites as code which warps you directly to the credits
This is LITERALLY programming in assembly without being able to actually type a single character.
What the actual fuck.This has always amazed me like how do people even figure this stuff out like this is beyond speedrunning this is literally breaking the game. I don’t think there’s any other game as thoroughly broken by the speedrunning community as Super Mario World is and I’m always shocked at just how far they’ve managed to break it. Like the Ocarina of Time strats are pretty impressive too fucking with data stored locations to get the game to warp them wherever they’d like by leaving the room in weird ways but at one AGDQ when they brought the TASbot out they had it literally write a new game through in game programming making a playable version of Pong and Snake in super mario world.
getting it to view twitch chat in real time is still the absolute greatest bar none
HOW DO YOU EVEN CONNECT A SNES TO THE INTERNET
