BALLOON PARTY 4: Chromatic Horizons
Summer is here, and with it comes the nightlife, the buzz, the sounds, the lights, and with the reignited nightlife comes new music. Sounds to immerse ourselves in, new genres to discover. What is nightlife to you? Is it amidst a crowd of partygoers, lost in the music around you, or is it spent somewhere more refined, sipping expensive drinks and making lucrative connections? Or, maybe it’s something completely unique to you, and only you can express it and take us through your nightlife.
The music we listen to has changed tremendously since Balloon Party began, old favourites have grown distant, replaced by newer styles and hybrids, but one thing has remained a constant: the magic, the excitement, the vibe.
The most exciting time for a producer can be the time they spend exploring all these new and breaking genres, drawing inspiration from them to create something fresh and inspiring, and a big part of that is sharing that with others. The creative buzz from learning something new, the thrill of using your new knowledge in your work and hearing that sudden improvement, and pushing yourself further than you ever had before.
For Balloon Party 4 we’re looking for an album of moving, hard hitting music way ahead of it’s time. There is no restriction of genre, and you don’t have to look far to find what’s on the horizon. With breaking genres of EDM such as Future House, Hybrid Trap and Indie Electro, new styles influencing today’s Rock, Pop, and Metal, and with so many potential fusions possible, it doesn’t matter what genre you want to work in. Go out there and find something that inspires you. Explore your Chromatic Horizons.

We kept the name because it was the one that originally established this series.
We kept the name because it’s a name that the community, new and old members alike, can recognize.
We kept the name because it’s a perfect representation of what we’re about: excitement and fun through the power of music. Balloons: the insignia of the original party-driven character who embodied the essence of the enjoyment of creating these high-energy pieces and sharing them with the world. We want to continue to carry on this aura with the fourth installment.

’The name’ is Balloon Party, and was coined as a literal pony parody of Knife Party way back when the first album was being made by members of the pony fanbase
So apparently, pony parodies are dumb and getting ridiculous, hence why the promotional blurb for this new instalment of Balloon Party has made every effort to not make reference to its origins, BUT, the project has retained the Balloon Party name to maintain the image a community will recognise and to refer to the insignia of the original party-driven character who inspired the concept of making music to share with the world.
Gee I wonder who this party-driven character with a balloon insignia is?
If you’re going to try to play this project off as a separation or break-away from its origins, you’d be better off demonstrating that with a new logo, name, and 100% less fishing for attention/sales from the fanbase you seem so adamant about breaking away from.
I mean let’s be serious here. If you’re only doing this because you love making music to share with people, and you’re confident that the contributions of like-minded producers will do all the hyping necessary to lead up to a big, successful release, why would you be clinging onto the old branding so hard? After all, the official blurb is attempting to appeal to a wider audience by never mentioning Balloon Party’s pony origins (something the wider audience probably don’t know whatsoever because pony music is a niche market honestly). Since the origins seem to be something that needs to be omitted, why not create a new identity for this project to represent the marketing toward a wider audience?
In actual fact, Silva, your reasoning contradicts the official blurb’s apparent intent. The blurb is sidestepping the origins like it is a bad Mary Sue’s backstory, yet your reasoning for why the branding was kept suggests that you at least are still happy to look back on the origins as an important fact of the project’s history - which goes against the image being portrayed in the OP.
I have a feeling there’s going to be some butting of heads when a few producers inevitably submit some very pony-inspired tracks. Oh wait, that won’t happen, I’m sure the ‘higher-ups’ will vet all the tracks to ensure quality and to make sure there is 100% No Feeble Cheering, Rainbows, Mindscapes, and especially no Apples. I’m sure it’ll be a Clean Sweep. Good luck to them in which case, because given the controversy every release has had in regards to quality and content and treatment of producers, this project only has One Last Shot. I could say it only has 1 BP left. But hey, if all goes well, maybe Chromatic horizons will open more Doors. If not, at least there’s going to be an After Party.
